A Prayer Before Reading

Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments. Psalm 119:73

During our Psalm 119 Bible study last Sunday, we found an earnest cry of worship to the Creator in verse 73. It reminds us of our origin, purpose, and dependence on God. As David wrote,

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:14

We are fearfully and wonderfully made by the very hands of the Almighty. Our existence is not a coincidence but a deliberate act of divine craftsmanship.

As we approach the study of God's word, it is important to remember that true understanding and wisdom come from the Lord. Without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our efforts will be useless. God grants us the ability to understand and apply His commandments to our lives.

Dear Church, as we open the pages of the Bible, let us bow our heads in prayer and echo the psalmist's cry: "Give me understanding that I may learn your commandments." Let us ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten our minds, open our hearts, and grant us wisdom as we embark on this sacred journey of studying and meditating on God's word.

May the Lord transform our hearts and minds as we worship and read His word.
