Our Helper
But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. And you also will bear witness because you have been with me from the beginning. John 15:26-27
In today's text, Jesus speaks to His disciples about the coming of the Holy Spirit and their role as witnesses. These verses talk about the transformative power of the Holy Spirit in equipping us to bear witness to Christ's truth.
Jesus introduces the coming of the Holy Spirit as the "Helper" who will come from the Father. This Helper is the Spirit of truth, and His role is to guide, empower, and bear witness about Jesus. The promise of the Holy Spirit is a gift from God, providing believers with divine assistance.
The Holy Spirit's primary role is to bear witness about Jesus. He testifies to the truth of Christ's life, teachings, death, and resurrection. Through the Spirit, believers receive an inner conviction and understanding of the significance of Jesus, deepening their faith and enabling them to share the gospel effectively.
Jesus makes it clear that the disciples' role as witnesses is connected to the coming of the Holy Spirit. They will bear witness not in their own strength but through the empowering presence of the Spirit. This truth applies to all believers, as we are empowered to testify about Jesus by the Holy Spirit.
Dear Church, today's text reminds us of the essential role of the Holy Spirit in our witness for Christ. As believers, we are not alone in our efforts to share the gospel; we have the Helper, the Spirit of truth, who equips and empowers us. Let us embrace the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, knowing that through Him, we can bear witness to the transformative truth of Jesus Christ.
