Why Fellowship?

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,  “Command the people of Israel and say to them, ‘My offering, my food for my food offerings, my pleasing aroma, you shall be careful to offer to me at its appointed time’ (Numbers 28:1–2).

Fellowship is a big part of our church. Whether it is a homemade meal, a backyard BBQ, or pizza, fellowship is a time where we sit around a table and share life. It is precisely why we hold our bible studies and family meetings in our cafe. Fellowship is not only important for church members, but also important between God and us.  Numbers 28-29 describe the Calendar of Public Offerings. The instruction for each offering is meticulous and costly. According to the ESV Study Bible, “It has been calculated that, over the course of a year, these sacrifices involved a total of 113 bulls, 1,086 lambs, over a ton of flour, and 1,000 bottles of oil and wine!” One thing to note is that these offerings were mandatory and not optional. Why would God, who created the universe from nothing and does not need anything from us, require such sacrifices? It is precisely for the purpose of fellowship!  The offerings represented a communal meal that was shared with God and His people. As we worship our God at The Well Church, let us not take our offering time lightly. Let us remember the atoning sacrifice our Lord Jesus Christ made so that we can enjoy fellowship with God. As we look forward to our fellowship time with each other every Sunday, let us also look forward to the offering time.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship (Romans 12:1).
