Would my actions honor God?

and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. - 1 Corinthians 10:3-4

“Because you did not believe me,” is probably the last thing you want to hear from God. Moses and Aaron heard this when Moses struck the rock for water instead of speaking to it (Numbers 20:11). For this one act of disobedience, Moses was not able to lead the Israelites into the Promise Land. The reason for the seemingly harsh punishment is not simply Moses’ disobedience, but his serious manifestation of anger towards God. Moses should have known that God was not only with him, but that he would be speaking to God when he was speaking to the rock. From a worldly perspective, Moses was successful — he provided water to the dry and thirsty Israelites — but he missed the objective. His main purpose should have been to honor and obey God. We are often faced with situations like Moses, where we are challenged to meet urgent needs for our friends and family. During desperate times, let us remember our key objective before meeting our needs by asking ourselves, “Would my actions honor God?” Let us not view success through the eyes of the world, but through the eyes of God (Romans 12:2). Let us take the Bible seriously and trust God. We cannot do this with our own strength, but by placing our trust in Jesus Christ, who was “obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:8b).

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
