Biblical Worship

I just returned from a pastor's gathering in Louisville, KY called “Together for the Gospel,” where over ten thousand were in attendance. On the opening day, Ligon Duncan challenged us to make sure that our worship services are biblical. According to Duncan, “Our worship needs to be ordered according to the Bible, and our worship needs to be filled with the Bible.” How do we do this? We do this by making sure that we Sing the Bible, Pray the Bible, Read the Bible and Preach the Bible. Singing the Bible is not about the style of music, but the substance of what we sing. The Bible is filled with prayers that we can pray. Public reading of the Bible is instructed in the New Testament (e.g., 1 Timothy 4:13, Colossians 3:16). And lastly, from the very beginning, preaching of the Word is about explaining the Bible. The Well Church, would you join me in prayer that our worship services will always be biblical? It’s not about how we want to worship God, it is about how God wants us to worship Him. With the help of the Holy Spirit, let us worship the Almighty One!
