God is so good

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. —James 1:17

There is a familiar chorus titled, “God is so good.” The first verse goes like this:

God is so good,
God is so good,
God is so good,
He’s so good to me!

The song is simple and easy to sing. According to one source, Velna Ledin wrote the first verse in 1933 for her traveling companions to help pass the time on a road trip.

James reminds us that God is good, and every good and perfect gift is from God. We often misunderstand God’s goodness by focusing on ourselves. When things do not go our way, we blame God and do not believe that He is good.

The Well Church, let us not be deceived. When things are not going the way we want to, let us not blame God. Let us look to God, who is good. Let us remember,

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. —Romans 8:28
