Spiritual Reality

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. — James 3:14-15

In today’s text, James reminds his readers that “wisdom” born out of jealousy and envy is earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. In our Christian walk, we often confront spiritual realities. As the Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians,

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (6:12).

Instead of recognizing the spiritual battle before us, we attempt to combat the fight with our “earthly, unspiritual, and demonic” wisdom, always leading to failure.

Brothers and sister of The Well Church, let us take up the whole armor of God, praying at all times in the Spirit (Ephesians 6:13, 18).
