What is the point?
Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast." So they took it. - John 2:6-8
"What is the point?"
Have you ever asked a question like for a job or an assignment given to you without explanation? When Jesus asks us to do something, it often makes no sense at all from our perspective. In today's text, we see that Jesus asks the servants to fill the purification jars, each holding twenty or thirty gallons, with water. Water had to be drawn from a well or fetched from a cistern. It probably took hours to accomplish the assignment at hand. I often wonder what the servants were thinking about when they had to fulfill a mundane task.
The Apostle Paul proudly proclaims,
"We are fools for Christ sake." - 1 Corinthians 4:10
Brothers and sisters of The Well Church, to the world, following Christ will sometimes look foolish. What does it mean when our secular culture approves of the lifestyle and faith of a believer? Let us boldly follow Christ and be fools for His sake.
