Opened Eyes
Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?" Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? - John 3:9-10
Head knowledge will not get us anywhere in the Kingdom of God. There is a hunger and desire to know and understand all things through science and education. However, our wisdom and understanding are limited. We cannot explain everything, and we do not know all things. Nicodemus, a Pharisee and teacher of Israel, thought he knew the bible thoroughly, but he did not understand it. Knowledge does not lead to salvation.
Dear Church, let us go to God for wisdom and understanding. We cannot understand God by "knowing" the bible by merely studying it. We need the Holy Spirit to open our eyes that we may see the truth. As we read God's word, let us begin a simple prayer from Psalm 119:18,
"Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law."
May the Lord bless you as you spend time with him in his word.
"I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance." - Ephesians 1:18
