White Lies
Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. — Ephesians 4:25
Is it OK to tell a white lie? Before we explore this question, one must look at the motivation behind white lies. When people lie, they often do it to be polite and avoid hurting another’s feelings. Sometimes people lie because of power deference, such as telling white lies to prevent appearing insubordinate. Not only do white lies make it easier to lie more often, but they also damage one’s credibility and reputation.
The Well Church, we are called and commanded to be truth-tellers. No matter the situation, let us rely on our Lord Jesus Christ and speak the truth in love.
These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; — Zechariah 8:16
