Return to God

From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, 'How shall we return?. - Malachi 3:7

Some commentators suggest Malachi 3:7 as a critical verse in Malachi's prophecy. God is calling His people to return to Him from a faithless life to a life of faith. Returning to God means to repent genuinely. The result of our repentance is clarified in Jeremiah.

I will give them a heart to know that I am the LORD, and they shall be my people and I will be their God, for they shall return to me with their whole heart. - Jeremiah 24:7
