At what cost?

So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour. - John 4:5-6

What is the cost of following Jesus Christ? We often want God to bless us for our works. After all, many believe that God will make our lives easier when we follow him. Scripture teaches us an opposite idea. John records that Jesus was weary from his journey to Galilee. Not only does this show us the humanity of Jesus Christ, but it also shows us that Jesus grew tired. He was exhausted from his trip!

Dear Church, as we serve Christ and his Church, let us remember that serving Christ can be exhausting -- it is not an easy ride. Let us not forget the words from the Apostle Paul.

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. - 1 Corinthians 15:58

What is God asking you today that seems difficult or uncomfortable? Lean in on Jesus Christ, and may he give you strength as you follow him.
