Which side are you on?

When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, "Are you for us, or for our adversaries?" And he said, "No; but I am the commander of the army of the LORD. Now I have come." And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped3 and said to him, "What does my lord say to his servant?" And the commander of the LORD's army said to Joshua, "Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy." And Joshua did so. - Joshua 5:13-15

Many Christians believe that God is on their side in our culture wars. Whether it is wearing masks, getting vaccinated, voting for a particular political party, singing or not singing certain songs. Just as Joshua asked God's messenger which side he was on, we divide people into different classifications and accept or reject them.

The messenger tells Joshua, "Neither." God doesn't take sides. Instead, he commands Joshua to take off his shoes for God is Holy. Our focus needs to be on God and His holiness, and the culture war does not matter to God.

Brothers and sisters of The Well Church, let us not get caught up in culture wars. Instead, keep your eyes on Jesus and love those around you by crossing the line you have drawn, whichever side you are on.
