Safe Message
Jesus said these things in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum. - John 6:59
Jesus' message was offensive to many people. The Jewish religious leaders referred to as simply "Jews" in the Gospel of John were offended that Jesus claimed to have come down from heaven, making himself equal to God. As we will see in the remaining verses in chapter 6, many of Jesus' followers were offended because his message was hard to accept. Astonishingly, we see that Jesus preached such an offensive message in the synagogue and his hometown, and he was not afraid to preach the truth in boldness.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, many churches have only stuck to the Bible's feel-good selections to be attractive to all. They were afraid to offend anyone by teaching the whole counsel of God. Let us pray that our pulpits will return to preaching the good news of Jesus Christ.
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. - Romans 10:17 (NIV)
