Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” - John 8:2-5
Desperate times call for desperate measures. The scribes and Pharisees saw Jesus threatening their authority, power, and influence over people. In an attempt to trap Jesus, they bring a woman caught in the act of adultery, asking Jesus to make a decision that will either get him in trouble with the Romans or the Jewish religious authorities. Sadly, they used a woman to put Jesus on trial, having no regard for bringing justice, which was the primary responsibility of judges.
Justice, and only justice, you shall follow, that you may live and inherit the land that the LORD your God is giving you. - Deuteronomy 16:20
Dear Church, what do you do when you are desperate? Jesus calls us to come to him. He says,
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30
Do not compromise with the world and trust in Jesus Christ when you are stuck. Rest in Him, and may you experience His peace.
