Confidence

For nothing will be impossible with God.
- Luke 1:37

This week's sermon title, "What's holding you back?" from Pastor Mike, encouraged me to think about situations in my life when I was held back from advancing God's call. I hesitate when I lack confidence, which reflects my lack of trust in Almighty God. Executive Coach Bobb Biehl says, "Confidence is a byproduct of predictability." When we lack confidence, we must focus on what is very predictable in the situation.

I find that remembering past victories in Christ helps me be more confident in God in the present. When I am stuck, I take out my journal and start recording when God rescued me from "impossible" situations.

Scripture also helps with our confidence in God. Reciting Bible verses draws our attention away from ourselves to God. One of my favorites is Isaiah 43:2.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze (NIV).

Dear Church, let us have confidence in God as we press on towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ (Philippians 3:14).
