Trust

The Jews answered him, "Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?" - John 8:48

We have all seen negative campaigning in the past, where one's character is smeared and attacked. What is the psychology behind such behavior? Character assassination takes place when one feels intimidated by another. The Jews, threatened by Jesus and His teachings, attack Jesus by calling Him crazy. To claim that one has a demon is the same as calling one crazy.

Many of us are not like the Jews of today's text. However, we act similarly to the Jews when we do not accept the truth recorded in God's word. When we think the truth does not apply to us, we have the same attitude as the Jews.

Dear Church, with what part of the Bible do you struggle? Instead of dismissing God's word, I encourage you to keep trusting God and His word.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths. - Proverbs 3:5-6

"If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth, only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair." - C. S. Lewis
