Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. So the sisters sent to him, saying, "Lord, he whom you love is ill." - JOHN 11:1-3
How are you known in your community? When describing Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, one could have easily introduced them as a wealthy family from Bethany. However, when John introduces Mary, Martha, and Lazarus to his readers, he introduces Mary as the one who anointed Jesus with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair. Remarkably, she was known for her devotion to Jesus Christ.
Dear Church, Jesus teaches that everyone will know his disciples through our love for one another. As God's children, let us make every effort to love God and one another. What is holding you back from loving your church? Reflecting on God's love for you, ask God to change your heart and attitude today.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." - JOHN 13:34-35
