Unintended Prophecy
He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. So from that day on they made plans to put him to death. JOHN 11:51-53
Unwittingly, Caiaphas prophesied Jesus' substitutionary atonement, not just for the Jews but also for the Gentiles. Although they intended to maintain their influence, status, and wealth, it played a role in accomplishing God's plan for the salvation of humanity.
As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. GENESIS 50:20
Dear Church, today's text serves as a reminder that God can use even one's unintended actions for good and that His plans are always greater than our own. As God's children, let us keep this in mind in all our efforts, whether we actively choose to put Christ first in our plans or find ourselves at the mercy of those who do not follow His teachings.
