Repentance

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” MARK 1:14–15

During our bible study last night, we discussed the meaning of repentance. While repentance may seem simple, it's a challenging subject that can profoundly impact our lives. In today’s text, we see Jesus beginning his ministry with a call to repentance. He says, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

So, what does it mean to repent? At its core, repentance is a turning away from sin and a turning toward God. It involves acknowledging our wrongdoing, asking for forgiveness, and committing to change our ways. Repentance is not just a one-time event but a continuous process of growth and transformation as we seek to align our lives with God's will. In other words, repentance is a starting point for sanctification.

So, how can we experience repentance in our own lives? Here are a few steps we concluded last night:

  • Acknowledge your wrongdoing as a sinner.

  • Seek genuine forgiveness.

  • Commit to change by relying on the Holy Spirit.

  • Seek accountability and support from your church.

The Well Church, as we reflect on the meaning of repentance, may we have the courage and humility to acknowledge our faults and shortcomings and receive God's forgiveness and love. Let us use this Lenten season to return to God and experience life change.
