Our Heart

Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what he did, believed in him, but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. JOHN 11:45-46

As John describes in today's text, many witnessed one of Jesus' greatest miracles of Him raising Lazarus from death to life. Although none denied the miracle, not all accepted and believed in Jesus Christ, and today's narrative demonstrates that seeing is not necessarily believing. Billy Graham once said, "The same sun that melts butter hardens the clay." Encountering Jesus either melts our hearts to believe or hardens our hearts like Pharoah's heart. Those who did not believe were mainly concerned about protecting their position, power, and possession.

Dear Church, let us remember that as the five solas state, we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone. Witnessing the power of Jesus in your life or others is not enough.

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. ROMANS 10:17

What about you? What is your motive for believing in Jesus Christ? As we reflect on today's passage, let us embrace our faith in Christ as we trust and obey Him.
