Generosity
One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered. PROVERBS 11:24-25
In this Lenten season, the message of Proverbs 11:24-25 takes on even greater significance. Lent is a time for reflection, introspection, and spiritual renewal, and it's a time when we are called to give of ourselves, make sacrifices, and focus on the needs of others.
Generosity is an attribute highly valued in the Bible, and it is something that God models for us through his giving. Generosity can be challenging to practice in a world that often emphasizes selfishness and self-promotion. But as we reflect on the example of God's giving and the blessings that come from giving to others, we can live out our calling to be generous.
Proverbs 11:24-25 reminds us that when we give freely and generously during this season, we will be enriched in ways we may not have anticipated. At the same time, when we withhold what we should give or focus solely on our own needs and desires, we create a scarcity mindset that can limit our potential for growth and abundance.
Dear Church, during this season, let us embrace the spirit of generosity with open hearts and hands, give our time, treasures, and talents freely and generously, and trust that the blessings we receive in return will be abundant and overflowing. May this season be a time of growth, renewal, and spiritual awakening for all of us.
