Surrender
And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Luke 22:41-44
In Luke 22:41-44, we see Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane before his arrest and crucifixion. Jesus is in anguish as he wrestles with the cup he must drink, yet he surrenders his will to the Father, saying, "not my will, but yours, be done." Jesus models the ultimate act of surrender, submitting himself completely to God's will and trusting in his plan, no matter how difficult it may be.
Surrendering to God's will can be a challenging and humbling process. It requires us to let go of our desires and agendas, trust God's plan, and submit ourselves entirely to his guidance and direction. It may not always be easy, but when we surrender to God, we demonstrate our love and trust in him.
When we surrender to God, we invite him to work in our lives in powerful ways. He can transform our fears into faith, our weaknesses into strengths, and our trials into opportunities for growth and learning.
Dear Church, let us take a moment to reflect on what God may be asking us to surrender today. Let us pray for the strength and courage to let go of our desires and trust in God's plan. And let us demonstrate our faith and trust as we surrender to Him today, knowing that He is faithful and true.
