Love

He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. John 13:4b-5

In today's text, Jesus shows us a powerful demonstration of love, leadership, servanthood, and humility. We see Jesus, the Son of God, taking on the role of a servant, laying aside his outer garments and taking a towel to wash his disciples' feet.

But this act of service was not just an example of humility but also an expression of love. Jesus showed his disciples that he loved them, not just in words but in deeds.

Dear Church, as we reflect on this passage, let us remember God's love for us, His children.

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1

Let us also remember the call that Jesus has placed on each of our lives - to love God and our neighbors - by following Jesus' example, to lay aside our desires and ambitions, and to take up the towel of servanthood.
